Westchester Knicks News Release
REUNION, FL - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, controlled the contest for the first three quarters but late missteps helped the Raptors 905 upend the Knicks, 127-115, on Saturday afternoon at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. The loss concludes Westchester's (6-5) three-game win streak.
Four minutes elapsed before either team scored in the contest. Alize Johnson put the foe on the board first, before a three-point heave by Jared Harper put the Knicks ahead one at the 8:47 mark. As the quarter went on, both teams remained in striking distance until Westchester showed glimpses of a favored advantaged evidenced by its 12-point lead with 14.2 seconds remaining in the frame. The first quarter ended with the Knicks in front, 31-22.
The Raptors (8-3) competed from the backseat for all of the second quarter and faced deficits as large as 15 points prior to a 12-point gap separating the two clubs at the break, 69-57.
In the third quarter, 905 came within single digits of Westchester but the Knicks still combatted with an eight-point lead heading into the fourth. In the final segment, the Raptors' offense overturned the Knicks and the Raptors had their first lead since the midway mark of the first. Henry Ellenson scored the Raptors go-ahead bucket with 8:37 remaining. The Knicks responded with a 5-2 run with almost four minutes to go but costly turnovers and off-target attempts dissolved Westchester's resurgence and it fell by the 12-point decision.
Harper, a Two-Way player, put up 25 points, seven assists and two rebounds. Affiliate player, Myles Powell, contributed 20 points, four made three-pointers and five assists off the bench. Affiliate player, James Young, shot 57.1-percent from three (4-for-10) and totaled 18 points. Returning player, Simi Shittu, lent 14 rebounds.
Johnson's 36 points tabbed a game-high. He also hauled a game-high 17 rebounds. Matt Morgan gifted the Raptors 19 points and 10 assists. Ellenson had 19 points on the afternoon.
The Knicks face the Iowa Wolves tomorrow, February 28 at 7:30 PM.
