Wilmington, DE - Wilmington's longest weather delay of the year couldn't keep the Blue Rocks from a 4-0 rain-shortened victory over the Potomac Nationals Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium. The game was delayed for two hours and 11 minutes after a half inning because of rain and lightning. However, the skies cleared in time for a 9:30 p.m. start time and when the game got underway, the Blue Crew jumped ahead quickly and never looked back. Rain stopped play again after seven innings and the game was called after a 37-minute delay. With the win, Wilmington improved to 39-43 overall and 6-8 in the second half.

Prior to the initial weather delay, the two clubs played a half inning. Sean Manaea tossed a scoreless top of the first for the Blue Rocks but did not continue to pitch when play resumed. Instead, it was Johnny Walter who entered the game and tossed 4.1 outstanding frames in relief. He retired the first 12 batters he faced and punched out six.

After the game was re-started, Wilmington pushed across an early run in the second inning off of Ian Dickson, who replaced Brian Rauh on the mound. Rauh warmed up but never threw a pitch. Cody Stubbs yanked a one-out triple into the right-field corner and then scored on an RBI single to left from Cam Gallagher.

Wilmington extended its lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Gallagher ripped a long homer to left to lead off the frame. Ramon Torres, who was playing in his first game for the Rocks, followed with a triple. He scored on an RBI groundout from Jared Schlehuber.

Raul Mondesi continued the Blue Rocks' offensive barrage with a leadoff single off of Richie Mirowski. He advanced to second on a groundout by Michael Antonio and scored on an RBI single from Stubbs.

Walter (4-1, 3.82) picked up the win for the Blue Rocks while Dickson (1-6, 6.11) suffered the defeat for Potomac.

The Blue Rocks return to action Thursday night at Frawley Stadium for the third and final game against the Potomac Nationals. Wilmington will send Glenn Sparkman () to the mound. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. and fans can listen to the broadcast on 89.7 WGLS-FM. For tickets, call 302-888-BLUE or visit BlueRocks.com.
