Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Wilmington, DE - Late Saturday, the Kansas City Royals acquired outfielder Paulo Orlando from the Chicago White Sox organization in exchange for left-hander Horacio Ramirez. On Monday, August 11, Orlando was officially assigned to the Wilmington Blue Rocks roster. Formerly of the Winston-Salem Warthogs, a fellow member of the Advanced-A Carolina League, the 22-year-old will join the Wilmington club tonight when the Rocks open a three-game set against the ‘Hogs at Ernie Shore Field.

Orlando was signed by the Chicago White Sox in January 2005 out of Sao Paulo, Brazil. After spending all of 2007 with Winston-Salem, the center fielder returned to the Warthogs this season and was batting .262 with nine homers, 42 RBIs and 28 stolen bases through 112 games. His 12 triples lead the Carolina League, while he trails only Wilmington's Derrick Robinson (55) and Jarrod Dyson (37) for the stolen base lead in the circuit. Prior to this season, Baseball America tabbed Orlando as the Fastest Baserunner and the Best Defensive Outfielder in the White Sox system. He is a former world-class sprinter for the Brazilian national team.

Ramirez was 1-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 15 relief appearances for Kansas City this season. He was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the fifth round of the 1997 draft and is in his sixth major league season.

The Blue Rocks return to Frawley Stadium to open a seven-game homestand on Thursday, August 14 with a 7:05 p.m. clash with the Salem Avalanche. For tickets, call 302-888-BLUE, visit www.bluerocks.com or stop by the Frawley Stadium ticket office Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
