THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg salvaged a win in their four-game series with Myrtle Beach by taking the finale 5-3 on Saturday night at City Stadium...The Hillcats dropped three out of four to the Pelicans, went 3-5 on their eight-game homestand and are three and a half games behind Wilmington for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division...Tonight the Cats start a three-game series at Kinton to round out the season series with the Tribe...These three games are and sandwiched between 12 home games for Lynchburg...
VS. KINSTON: This season Lynchburg is 7-10 against Kinston and 3-4 at Grainger Stadium...In the all-time series the Hillcats are 138-135 against the Indians and are 60-77 at Kinston...Last year the K-Tribe took the season series 12-8 over the Cats...The last series they met Kinston won two out of three and that started an eight series winless streak for Lynchburg...Since that series the Hillcats have lost eight out of nine series...
THE BIRDS: Saturday night's game marked the end of the season series with Myrtle Beach...The Pelicans won the series 13-7...The two teams split the first 12 games, but the Birds won the next seven games before Saturday night...The Hillcats win on Saturday also snapped the Pelicans franchise-high 11-game win streak...Wilmington is the only other team in the league Lynchburg has finished playing in 2008...
NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT: LHP Tony Watson tossed six scoreless innings on Saturday night and got a no decision to show for it...It marked the sixth time this season that the lefty has gone at least five innings of work, allowed one run or less and not picked up a victory...Watson is getting just 4.1 runs of support per start, from a team that is averaging just under five runs a game...
LATE INNING HEROICS: UTIL Eddie Prasch hit the game-winning two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel the Hillcats to their 5-3 win...It was the ninth time this season that Lynchburg won a game in their final plate appearance, but it was the first time since July 5th...From June 21st-July 5th the Cats had six wins of that fashion, including three straight from July 3rd-5th...The base-hit by Prasch extended his hitting streak to nine games...Over that stretch he is 10-for-27 (.370) with six RBI and five runs scored...
LATE INNING WOES: RHP Dustin Molleken allowed three runs in relief on Saturday night to relinquish a three-run lead and take his second blown save in four appearances...It was the third time in four outings that the righty has either lost the lead or allowed the go-ahead run in a game...Molleken has allowed at least two runs in four straight outings to up his ERA to 6.86...
NO RUST: SS Brian Friday went 2-for-4 on Saturday night and went 7-for-11 in the last three games of the series against Myrtle Beach...The Mid-Season All-Star selection is 16-for-41 (.390) with five runs and three RBI in his ten games since his return from the Disabled List...Friday was out from June 12th through July 30th...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHERS: Game one starter RHP Hector Rondon was a signed as a free agent by the Cleveland Indians back in 2004...He pitched for the Dominican Indians in '04 and went 3-3 with a 1.65 ERA in 15 games (12 starts)...In 2006 he pitched for the GCL Indians and went 3-4 with a 5.13 ERA in 11 starts...A season ago he pitched for Low-A Lake County and went 7-10 with a 4.37 ERA in 27 starts...This season the right hander has gone 10-5 with 3.68 ERA for Kinston...Lynchburg broke up his seven-game winning streak in his last start against the Hillcats when they tagged him for six runs in four and 2/3 innings...In three starts against the Cats he is 1-1 with 4.30 ERA (seven earned runs in 14 and 2/3 innings)...
