K-Tribe Wins Fifth Straight Game

The Kinston Indians drew 1,336 fans Monday night to pass their 2007 attendance mark as the Indians beat the Lynchburg Hillcats 10-1, in the first of a three-game series at Historic Grainger Stadium. The Indians have drawn 115,326 fans with eight home games left, surpassing last years mark of 115,195. The Indians are on pace to draw 130,000 this year, their largest attendance since 2001.
The Indians made the home fans happy early as Carlos Santana hit a solo home run in the first inning for his first Grainger Stadium long ball. Johnny Drennen homered in his second straight game, with a three-run shot in the second inning to give the Indians a 4-0 lead. Drennen drove in two more runs in a six-run fifth inning, for a season-high five RBIs. Carlos Rivero got a hit in his fifth straight game, and had an RBI, collecting hits in 11 of his last 12 ballgames. Rivero, Drennen and Niuman Romero each had two hits for Kinston.
Kinston starter Hector Rondon did the rest going seven innings and allowing just a solo home run and two other hits. He picked up his 11th win, tied for most in the Carolina League, walking one and striking out five. Sung-Wei Tseng threw two and one-third scoreless innings in relief.
The Indians have won five straight games, and clinched the season series over the Hillcats with their 11th win against them. Kinston has now won nine of their last 12 games. Kelvin De La Cruz (2-1) will get the start for Kinston Tuesday night at 7pm at Historic Grainger Stadium.
