Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Camden, NJ., May 20th 2015)---Southern Maryland came into the day having banged out 13 hits in last night's ballgame. After a quick turnaround from a night game to a morning start today, Southern Maryland managed just five hits, as they fell to Camden 5-2.
The Riversharks put three runs on the board in the bottom of the third. Michael Rockett doubled down the left field line, followed by an error by the third baseman Renny Osuna to put runners at the corners. A few pitches later, Shaun Garceau uncorked a wild pitch to allow Rocket and Brandon Chaves at second and third with one out. The next hitter Evan Crawford would line a single to left to score Rockett to make it 1-0. After an Evan Crawford stolen base to put runners at second and third, Ryan Strieby singled to score Chaves, and Crawford to make it 3-0 Camden.
In the top of the fourth, Brandon Chaves singled to right with two outs. Evan Crawford then walked, and Ryan Strieby drove in Chaves with an RBI single to make it 4-0. Southern Maryland got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth with a Tyler Wagner double to score Jamar Walton to make it 4-1. Camden would answer though in the bottom of the sixth. Michael Rockett would start another rally with one out, driving a single out to center. Three batters later, with runners at first and second, Ryan Strieby singled to score Brandon Chaves, driving in his third run of the day, and making it 5-1.
Southern Maryland tried to climb back in the game in the eighth. Casey Frawley singled, followed by a Tyler Wagner double to put runners at second and third. Antone DeJesus came up to bat and flied out to left, and not deep enough to score Frawley from third. Renny Osuna grounded out to short to score Frawley to make it 5-2. With a runner at third, Zach Wilson would lift one in the air and fly out to right to strand a runner at third completing their final threat of the day, and eventually losing 5-2.
Ryan Strieby went 3-4 with three RBIs for Camden, while Tyler Wagner went 2-3 with two doubles. The bottom three hitters in the Blue Crabs order went a combined 4-9. Riversharks starter Wes Torrez went seven innings, allowing a run, on three hits, striking out seven and walking just one.
Tomorrow the rubber match of the series will commence. RHP Brian Grening (1-0, 4.32) will throw for Southern Maryland, while RHP Sean Gleason (1-2, 3.75) will start for Camden. The first pitch is set for 7:05.
