Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
WALDORF, Md. - The Sugar Land Skeeters continued to stump the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs bats in the middle game of a three-game series tonight at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Blue Crabs managed just three hits verse Skeeters starting pitcher Greg Aquino and company. On the other hand Southern Maryland struggled to take command on the mound. Wade Korpi was handed his second loss of the season as he allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits, while walking five. The Blue Crabs bullpen also struggled to take command as relief pitchers Joe Gannon, Beau Vaughan, Kyle Mertins and Charlie Manning gave up seven additional runs (four earned). Cyle Hankerd provided the only moment of hope for Southern Maryland as he hit his 19th home run of the season in the final frame of the contest.
Wladimir Sutil broke the silence as he doubled in the bottom of the third inning and notched the first hit of the game for the Blue Crabs. Sutil would try to stretch for two bases however and be unsuccessful at his attempt. Southern Maryland would then be held scoreless until the bottom of the ninth inning when outfielder Cyle Hankerd would chip in a solo home run. The following two Blue Crabs would walk keeping the team's hopes alive, but the score would stand at 2-1 in favor of the Skeeters.
