
Bergmann Signs with Royals Organization

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters have announced that newly-named Atlantic League All-Star and Skeeters closer Jason Bergmann has signed with the Kansas City Royals organization. The announcement was made by Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti and Director of Operations Michael Kirk.
Bergmann, 31, made 30 relief appearances for Sugar Land in 2013. In his second season with the Atlantic League, the All-Star right-hander held a 2-0 record with a 0.30 ERA (1ER/30IP) and a team-best 18 saves in as many opportunities. His 18 saves also ranked second in the Atlantic League. Over 12 career minor league seasons, the New Jersey native owns a 49-48 record with a 3.47 ERA (276ER/716IP) and 44 saves.
Selected by the Montreal Expos in the 11th round of the June 2002 Draft out of Rutgers University, Bergmann spent parts of six seasons in the big leagues with the Washington Nationals (2005-10). In 155 Major League appearances (50 starts), Bergmann went 12-24 with a 5.04 ERA (218ER/389.2IP) and 299 strikeouts.
Bergmann is the sixth member of Sugar Land's 2013 club and 16th overall to be signed by a Major League organization. Bergmann's signing also marks the 19th overall Skeeters player to move from the Atlantic League to another professional baseball league since Opening Day 2012.
Atlantic League Division Series play begins Wednesday, September 18 at Constellation Field.
