Blue Crabs' Bats Come Alive to Beat the Barnstormers in Waldorf

(Waldorf, MD)---Last night against Camden, the Blue Crabs' 3-4-5-6 hitters went a combined 0-16. Tonight, the script was flipped as the 3-4-5-6 hitters of Wilson, Hankerd, Molina, and Stevenson went a combined 9-17 with six RBIs, including two homeruns.

In the bottom of the first, Zach Wilson hit a solo homerun over the wall in left centerfield to give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Southern Maryland then put up a four spot. With two outs and a runner at first, Zach Wilson singled into right center. The next hitter Cyle Hankerd doubled home DeJesus, with Wilson scoring on an error by the second basemen Kajimoto. Gustavo Molina then came to the plate and hit a two run shot over the left field wall to make it 5-0.

Lancaster attempted to climb back in the game. In the top of the fourth, with Blake Galien at first base, Keith Castillo singled into right field to score Galien to make it 5-1. In the top of the fifth, Kevin Rivers led off the inning with a single, followed by a Kajimoto walk to put runners at first and second. Blake Galien then drove in Rivers with an RBI single to right to make it 5-2. Brian Cavazos-Galves would then double to drive in Kajimoto to make it a 5-3 ballgame.

Brian Burres on in relief for Southern Maryland would settle down as Brian, combined with Fernando Nieve, and Erik Hamren sat down 12 straight Lancaster hitters from the top of the fifth to the ninth. Southern Maryland would add more runs to their lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth. With one out Cyle Hankerd doubled to left, followed by followed by a Gustavo Molina single to center to score Cyle from second. The next hitter Casey Stevenson roped a double into the right center field gap, scoring Gustavo Molina all the way from first. An error from the shortstop Zawadzski, allowed Stevenson to score to make it 8-3.

The Blue Crabs padded their lead with runs in the seventh, and eighth innings to bring the final score to 10-3. Southern Maryland banged out 11 hits overall on the night. RHP Jon Leicester started the ballgame and went four innings allowing a run, while walking three and striking out two. Meanwhile Bryan Woodall had a rough night on the mound as the Barnstormers starter went four and a third, allowing eight runs on nine hits.

Game two of the four game series is set for tomorrow. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35. LHP Matt Packer (2-2, 3.52) will throw for Lancaster, and he'll be opposed by RHP Brian Baker (1-1, 3.14) going for Southern Maryland.
