
Bluefish Shutout By Skeeters In Return Home

(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 22, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (14-13) fell to the Sugar Land Skeeters (12-16) 4-0 in their return home from a four-game road trip in the opener of a four-game Memorial Day Weekend wraparound series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night. It was the third time the Bluefish have been held without a run in a game this season, and the second time in the last four games overall. Bridgeport committed a season-high four errors on the evening.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher D.J. Mitchell (3-1) took the loss, tossing six innings, giving up seven hits and two runs (one earned run), walking four and striking out five. Sugar Land Starting Pitcher Derek Blacksher was tagged with the no-decision after going the first four innings, allowing five hits and no runs, walking one and striking out two.
Sugar Land led 2-0 on an RBI ground out in the fifth inning by Willy Taveras and an RBI single by Amadeo Zazueta in the sixth inning. The Skeeters added two insurance runs in the top half of the ninth inning on RBI singles by Dustin Martin and Beamer Weems, to close out the scoring at 4-0 en route to the shutout victory. Andrew Carpenter (2-2) picked up the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one. Andres Rodriguez led the way for the Bluefish with two hits.
The 'Fish are back home at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday, May 23rd when they host the Sugar Land Skeeters in the middle game of the Holiday Weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
