Blowfish Fall to Pilots

HAMPTON, VA- The Columbia Blowfish fell to the Peninsula Pilots 4-3 Monday night in their first meeting of the year. The loss brings the Blowfish second half record to 13-10.

The Blowfish took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Todd Joyner reached on an error by the first baseman and Michael Wilson scored on the play. The Pilots evened the score in the bottom of the second off of Blowfish starting pitcher Zack Russell-Myers and then took the lead in the fourth with another single run. Russell-Myers went five innings giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out four.

The Blowfish would reclaim the lead in fifth scoring two runs. Tony Price led the inning off with a double down the left field line then advanced to third on a wild pitch. Price score to tie the game when Daniel Torres grounded out to short. Later in the inning Michael Wilson singled to score Federico Castagnini and give the Blowfish the lead.

The Pilots did not go away reclaiming the lead in the eighth with two runs off of Blowfish reliever Jeff Kinley. Kinley went two and a third innings giving up two runs on three hits while striking out four. Kinley took the loss for the Bloefish. Stuart Pound recorded the final two outs of the eighth giving up one hit and striking out one.

Chris Rowley started on the mound for the Pilots going six innings giving up three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out two. Grayson Bailey come on in relief for the Pilots to pitch two scoreless innings allowing just one hit while striking out one to get the win. Brad Zambron pitched the ninth to get the save for the Pilots.

The Blowfish continue their three game road trip tomorrow night at Edenton before returning home on Wednesday for Fan Appreciation Night. Wednesday will also be the last regular season home games as the Blowfish host the Forest City Owls in a doubleheader at 5:05. The Columbia Blowfish are in their seventh season at Historic Capital City Stadium and are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
