Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Even though they didn't need it, Bryan Aanderud's two-out, RBI single seemed to provide the difference in the Owls' 4-2 win over the Gastonia Grizzlies on Monday night. Aanderud also notched the winning RBI when he was hit by a pitch in the 3rd inning to give Forest City a 3-2 lead. Drake Thomason, Jason Driver and Jake Padgett all escaped situations with runners on for the Grizzlies late in the game, with Padgett recording his 9th save.

Thomason perhaps recorded the biggest outs of the game in the 7th inning. Gastonia loaded the bases with one out on two walks and a single. The righty rebounded and struck out CPL Player of the Week Tyler White on three pitches. Then, Thomason fell behind David Reid-Foley with three balls and no strikes, eventually getting a ground out from the Gastonia designated hitter. Padgett also struck out Reid-Foley with the tying run on base to end the game.

The Owls took an early lead against Josh Medeles with two runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Aanderud got it started with a double off the wall in left field. Dykota Spiess followed with a base hit up the middle to deliver Aanderud. Spiess advanced to second on a groundout by Mark Lindsay, and scored on another base hit by Kurt Seiders.

Gastonia rallied against Ryan Hander in the top half of the 3rd inning with run scoring hits from Bryce Beeler and Billy Urban. That was the only bad inning for Hander who picked up his 5th win of the year. In his other four innings of work he only faced one more batter than the minimum. In the bottom of the 3rd, Forest City gave him the lead when Nate Chong doubled, Alex Close singled, and Luke Tollison walked to load the bases. That set up Aanderud for his game-winning hit by pitch.

The Owls have an off day tomorrow. Forest City travels to Columbia for a doubleheader on Wednesday evening. The Owls Community Give Back Game is on Thursday, with the team offering free admission to all its great fans. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
