
White, Wainman Named Rawlings CPL Players of the Week for Week Nine

The Coastal Plain League announced today that Gastonia's Tyler White was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Morehead City's Matt Wainman was honored as the Rawlings Pitcher of the Week for week nine of action (July 24-29).
White made the most of his seven starts on the week, posting a league-high 14 hits, four of which were doubles. The Grizzlies first basemen, a member of the Western Carolina Catamounts baseball program, was best in the league with 13 RBIs and 21 total bases. His whopping 1.214 OPS placed him within the top three of all hitters in the league. Further, White also had four doubles and a homer to go with six runs scored and four walks.
Wainman twirled a gem on the mound for the Marlins, carrying out a complete game shutout to earn the win and lower his season ERA to 1.32 on the year. Over the nine innings, the 6-2, 220-pound southpaw product of William & Mary walked no batters and allowed three hits, only one of which was an extra base hit. His eight strikeouts and .100 opponent batting average were tops among pitchers in the league. Furthermore, Wainman posted a stellar 0.33 WHIP.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Further more,the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 53 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
