Wainman Named Pitcher of the Week

MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced Morehead City Marlins LHP Matt Wainman was selected Coastal Plain League Pitcher of the Week after his complete game shutout against the Thomasville HiToms.
On Thursday, July 26 the southpaw tossed all nine innings in a 2-0 Marlins victory at Finch Field in Thomasville. The junior from William and Mary allowed just three hits and struck out eight without walking a batter. No baserunner advanced further than second base and Wainman faced just three three-ball counts all night.
On the season, Wainman is 2-3 with a 1.32 ERA. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his seven starts, but the Marlins bats have supported him with three runs or more on just two occasions. The 6-2, 220 pound Woodbridge, Va. native is the first Marlin to be honored with a Player of the Week award in 2012.
The Morehead City Marlins are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 930 alumni drafted and 51 alums make their Major League debut thus far.
