Green Bay Blizzard News Release

If the old saying "defense wins championships" holds true the Green Bay Blizzard have a lot to look forward to this season. With the first seven weeks of the 2007 season already behind them, the Blizzard looks to build on their 3-3 record behind the strength of a stellar defense. The Blizzard defense has been instrumental in every win of the '07 season, and has successfully shut down some of the top offensive powers from around the league in the process. Sitting comfortably atop each of the major defensive statistical categories the Blizzard defense has proven itself a true power across the af2.

The Blizzard defense has shown up to play on US Cellular Field this season holding visiting offenses to fewer than 32 points in each game of their home winning streak. In fact, even on the road, where the team has struggled to get a win thus far, the defense has still stood strong giving up more than 36 points only once in their three losses. The Blizzard defense stands proudly at first in the af2 in scoring defense, allowing an average of only 33.5 points per game. The Blizzard defense of 2006 that contributed to an American Conference Championship finished last regular season at fourth in the league averaging 44.9 points against. The Blizzard, who also rank first in passing defense (185.0 yards/game), rushing defense (10.5 yards/game), are currently only giving up 195.5 total yards per game and have only given up 27 touchdowns all season. The team that boasted the best total defense in last year's regular season was the Bakersfield Blitz, who ended their 2006 campaign giving up 220.2 yards per game.

The Blizzard, a team that prides itself on playing hard nosed football, has found defensive success by keeping pressure on the quarterback and hitting hard all over the field. Many of the team's highlight real hits in 2007 have come from Stephen Cason (#22, DB). An af2 rookie from the College of William and Mary, Cason's 31 solo tackles and 7 assisted (34.5 total) thus far are good enough to currently stand at 16th in the league. Ronnie Amadi (#4, DB) currently stands just behind Cason on the leader board with 31.5 total tackles which brings him in at 23rd overall. Ronnie Amadi and twin brother Donnie Amadi (#5, DB) both come to Green Bay from the University of Kansas. Ronnie also ranks third in the league in passes defended with 17, and Donnie holds the top spot in forced fumbles with four.

The Blizzard defense is also lead by two year veteran of the af2 Jason Hardee (#96, DL, University of West Virginia). Hardee is currently tied for seventh in the league in sacks with five, for a loss of 23 yards. Hardee stands alone at sixth in the league in tackles for loss with 6.5 for a total of 30 yards lost. Fellow defensive standouts who keep the pressure on opposing offenses include Kory Lothe (#90, DL, University of Eastern Illinois), Rob May (#42, LB, Florida State), and Tyree Young (#99, DL, Indiana University of Pennsylvania).
