Stockton Lightning News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - Alex Walls nailed a game-winning 39-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to lift the Stockton Lightning to a thrilling 55-54 victory over the Everett Hawks at Everett Events Center on Monday night in week 7 of arenafootball2 action.

The time-expiring and game-winning strike was Walls' second of the season, both coming from identical range. WR Kenyatte Morgan led the Lightning offense with nine catches, 122 receiving yards and tallied one touchdown reception, additionally breaking a single-game team record with 237 return yards on nine attempts to capture the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game Honors.

Everett capitalized off three Lightning turnovers in the first quarter and took an early 3-0 lead on Adam Williams' season-high 26-yard field goal with 7:30 left in the first, followed by a 25- yard touchdown reception by Josh Richey from QB Jason Campbell to push the Hawks lead to 9-0 with 1:42 left in the frame.

Former Lightning receiver Phil Goodman expanded Everett's lead to 15-0 on an 18-yard touchdown reception early in the second quarter, followed by the Lightning's first touchdown score with 13:23 left. The Lightning assumed a 21-7 run to get back in the game, beginning on Clarence Cunningham's his first receiving score on a 24-yard lob from QB Evan Gray, followed by Everett's counter with eight minutes left on a seven-yard receiving score by Josh Richey.

Gray connected to WR Sale' Key on a nine-yard touchdown reception with 4:40 left to cut Everett's lead to 22-14, followed by a one-yard keeper run by Gray to cut the deficit to 22-21 with 25.1 seconds left which stemmed off an Everett turnover-on-downs.

The Lightning continued their run on Key's 16-yard touchdown reception from Gray on the first play of the third quarter, taking their first lead of the game at 28-22. Everett tied the game on Josh Richey's 34-yard receiving score, but the Lightning retaliated on Gray's 48-yard strike down the left sideline to Cunningham, giving the Lightning a 35-28 lead. Alex Walls' 31-yard field goal and Kenyatte Morgan's 39-yard touchdown reception helped the Lightning to a 45-42 lead through three quarters.

Everett took a 13-0 run into the fourth quarter to resume a 48-45 lead, countered by Sale Key's nine-yard touchdown reception into the left corner of the end-zone with one minute left. After Everett's Marvin Brown hauled in a three-yard score with 8.6 seconds left, Morgan's reception set up Gray for the game-winning boot with a catch near mid-field with 0.4 seconds left, taking the ball out-of-bounds to stop the clock.

Gray then finished his heroics with the game-winning boot, giving the Lightning their first road victory since June 10, 2006 at Green Bay. Gray finished the game with an 18-for-27 clip, throwing six touchdown passes and one interception. Campbell went 26-for-43 for Everett, tallying 269 passing yards and eight touchdown tosses to garner Schutt Offensive Player of the Game Honors.

Lightning DB York Frierson, matched-up throughout the game with Goodman, held the former Lightning receiver to just six catches for 67 yards, tallying one interception for ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors.
