THE STAKES: The Lightning venture into the month of August for the first time in franchise history in the first round of the ArenaCup Playoffs, facing the Spokane Shock in National Conference play. The Lightning clinched their first ever playoff berth with a 6-10 record and finished 2-1 in the final three weeks of the regular season. Their opponent, the Spokane Shock, were ArenaCup VII champions in 2006 and lost in overtime, 56-55 last year in ArenaCup IX to the Tennessee Valley Vipers at Spokane Arena, which was ranked in a vote by the fans as the greatest game in af2 history. The winner of Saturday's first round game faces the winner of #4 Boise vs. #5 Arkansas in the second round.
