Wildcats lose to Horsemen

South Georgia Wildcats News Release


The Kentucky Horsemen overcame 21 penalties, 2 turnovers, and a 17 point third quarter deficit to defeat the South Georgia Wildcats 66-63 and advance to the 2nd round of the af2 playoffs.

After trailing by 10 at the half, Kentucky began the third quarter with the ball and proceeded to fumble into the hands of the Wildcats, which South Georgia turned into a touchdown and a 17 point lead with 9:55 left in the 3rd. From there Kentucky, on the strength of their defense stopping South Georgia on 4th and 10 at their own 3 yard line and recovering a fumbled kickoff in the endzone on the following play, rolled off 20 unanswered points to take a 45-42 lead with 1 minute remaining in the quarter. The teams traded touchdowns for the rest of the game until Kentucky took the lead with 57 seconds remaining and followed by stopping South Georgia on 4th and 7 as they were driving for the go ahead score with 39 seconds remaining to preserve the win and advance.

Kentucky was led by the two headed monster at QB as Justin Rascati completed 70.6% of his passes for 190 yards and 1 touchdown while adding 2 more scores rushing and Jared Lorenzen completed 66.7% of his passes for 112 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 3 rushing scores of his own. For South Georgia, Darnell Kennedy completed 56.5% of his passes for 195 yards, 7 touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown.

Lonnell Dewalt of the Horsemen led all receivers with 13 receptions for 127 yards and 1 touchdown. South Georgia was paced by Alvance Robinson with 5 catches for 40 yards and 2 scores.

With the win, Kentucky moves on to face #1 seed in the American Conference of the af2, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final South Georgia 14 21 14 14 63 Kentucky 7 18 20 21 66
