Bakersfield Blitz News Release

BAKERSFIELD, CA -- The Bakersfield Blitz (5-7) have made several moves to help in an effort to bolster the roster for the 2007 playoff push.

OL Wil Goff (Redlands, '03) and WR Tyrone Baisden (Livingstone College, '06) have been placed on Long Term Injured Reserve. Players that are placed on Long Term IR must sit out a minimum of four weeks, making Goff and Baisden ineligible to return to the team until a potential playoff date in early August.

To help fill out the roster, Head Coach Gary Compton (East Texas State University, '90) has been assigned four new players to Bakersfield. The new additions are OL/DL Francisco Anguiano, Idaho State '06, (6'4", 295 lbs), OL/DL Mike Felemi, Baker University '01, (6'2", 330 lbs) , WR Shedrack "Shack" Okoebor, Idaho State '06, (6'0", 195 lbs) and WR/LB Josh Powell, San Jose State '05, (6'3", 225 lbs). Anguiano and Okoebor are expected to be available for this weekend's game against the Boise Burn (4-8).

"We have a lot of guys banged up right now and the players we're bringing in will certainly help us out right away," said Coach Compton. "I'm excited to get these guys on the field to help us with our playoff push."

After taking on the Boise Burn this Saturday at 6:00 p.m., the Blitz will return home for the final two home games of the 2007 season. On Saturday, July 14th, former Bakersfield defensive coordinator Cedric Walker will bring his Everett Hawks (3-9) to town. The following week, the Blitz will host the Stockton Lightning (6-6) for a second time this season. The regular season finale will be the third installment of the Battle of Highway 99 as the Blitz head north to play the Central Valley Coyotes (7-5).
