PITTSFIELD, Massachusetts - The Rockland Boulders, behind a strong performance from starting pitcher Bobby Blevins, held on for a 3-2 victory over the Pittsfield Colonials on Tuesday night in Can-Am League action.

The win is Rockland's second in a row over the Colonials (3-2), after the club dropped game one of the four game series 9-6.

"Bobby pitched the way we expected him to," said Boulders manager, Dave LaPoint. "We played clean defense and the bullpen shut the door."

Rockland (4-2) scored in the top of the first, taking advantage of an error from Colonials' pitcher Chad Paronto. Jermel Lomack lead the game off with a single, which later turned into a run for Rockland as Ryan Mollica's single couldn't be handled by Paronto and the Pittsfield defense.

Up 1-0, the Boulders struck for two in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Mollica and Norm Hutchins both reached on walks, and then were driven home on Tommy Giles' RBI single and Todd Jennings' sacrifice fly to left field.

Blevins was superb in his second start, and did not allow a run up until the sixth when Pittsfield cut the deficit to 3-2. Johnny Welch's two-run home run broke the shutout for Rockland and Blevins.

"I located the ball real well for most of the game, but paid for my mistakes," explained Blevins, who did not walk a batter in the game. "The defense and bullpen came up big when we needed it."

It was a little too late for Pittsfield, who had to face Rockland's closer Adrian Martin in the bottom of the ninth. Martin had a perfect frame, striking out the side to gain his second save of the season.

Blevins picks up his first win of the year, going 6 1/3 innings and striking out four batters. Paronto is charged with the loss despite striking out four.

"It was a great team effort. This could be a real boost for our club winning a close game like this," said Blevins.

Rockland and Pittsfield square off at 10:30 am at Wahconah Park in the finale of the four game series. Pitcher of the Week, Roger Lincoln (1-0, 1.29 ERA) gets the ball for the Boulders, while David Qualben (1-0, 2.35 ERA) starts for Pittsfield.

"Bobby pitched an excellent game, and he threw the ball really well," Mollica said. "We had some timely hits early and some huge plays late. We really grinded it out, and it is just a great team win."
