Tornadoes Score 14 in 4th to Win 20-1, Breaking League Record

The Tornadoes won their second game in a row at home on Tuesday night, defeating the New York Federals with a 20-1 victory. Worcester set the CanAm League Record for runs scored in an inning, knocking 14 runs in during the bottom of the fourth. Their 10 hits that inning tied the league record, and they had a 20-0 shutout until there was one out in the ninth.

Zach Zuercher got the victory, pitching seven shutout innings while striking out 10 batters. He was staked to a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to a Mar Minicozzi RBI groundout, plating Abraham Nunez. Nunez ended the game 3-4 with three walks, a double, an RBI and four runs scored, including two in the fourth.

Worcester added three more runs in the third, sending nine men to the plate. Chris Colabello, Alex Fernandez an Alex Trezza all had runs batted in that inning.

The first eight batters in the fourth inning all reached and scored for Worcester. By the time the frame was done, 17 batters came to the plate. Nunez, Alex Nunez, Colabello, Fernandez, Nick Salotti and Trezza all scored twice in the fourth, with Trezza's grand slam capping the scoring. Colabello and Fernandez had homeruns during the Tornadoes historic fourth.

The Tornadoes will go for the sweep in the three game series against the Federals at 11:05am on Wednesday for Baseball in Education Day.
