Can-Am League Game Recaps
May 31, 2011 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Brockton 2, Quebec 1
A pitchers duel saw the final six innings of Brockton's 2-1 win over Quebec produce nothing. It was a third-inning solo homer off the bat of Brockton 1B Melvin Falu that gave the club its win. The Rox did manage nine hits Tuesday night. But crafty Capitales defense and impressive runners-on pitching from Quebec starter Matthew Rusch kept the game within reach until the final out. Rox pitchers, on the other hand, just didn't allow many Capitales to get on base. Just three Quebec runners ever reached first safely, with the Capitales' sole run coming on a solo shot from Patrick D'Aoust in the third. The Quebec went 2-3 on the night.
New Jersey 7, Newark 6
Twice coming back to tie the score after trailing early to Newark, 5-1, New Jersey took its first and only lead of the game on CF Chris White's two-run home run in the eighth inning Tuesday night. The Jackals used round-trippers all night to stay within reach, with White's blast giving his club a 7-6 win. White went 2-4 on the night with a run and two RBI. For Newark, Tim Raines Jr. went 4-5 with a run and two RBI to lead the Bears. Jackals reliever Jared Locke earned the win, pitching a one-hit, one-walk eighth inning.
Worcester 20, New York 1
Worcester nearly batted twice through its lineup in a 14-run fourth inning Tuesday, coasting to a 20-1 win over the Federals. Tornadoes catcher Alex Trezza capped off the big fourth with a grand slam, accounting for four of his co-team high of five RBI. Trezza scored twice on a 2-3 night. Worcester starting pitcher Zach Zuercher pitched seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out 10 Federals batters, earning his first win of the season. Joining Trezza with five RBI, Worcester 1B Chris Colabello went did so on a 4-7 night with three runs, to boot.
Rockland 3, Pittsfield 2
The Boulders lent some early run support to starting pitcher Bobby Blevins, putting three on the board over the first third of the game. And the 6-foot 26-year-old made that enough, allowing two runs over over 6.1 innings, giving up nine hits with four strikeouts. Blevins handed the game over to the bullpen in the seventh, and a trio of Rockland relievers shut out the Colonials from that point on, preserving the one-run win. Boulders 3B Ryan Mollica went 2-3 with a run and an RBI to pace the Rockland offense.
