Kamloops Blazers News Release

The Kamloops Blazers won two of three games last week to run their record back to the 500 mark (30-30-2-4) and now sit one point back of the Seattle Thunderbirds in the race for 5th place in the Western Conference. The club will play three times this week with two of those games coming against the top two teams in the WHL. First, a look back at last week's action:

Wednesday vs Spokane: Drayson Bowman scored the first four Spokane goals as the Chiefs posted a 5-2 win in Kamloops on Wednesday night. Bowman gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead before Scott Wasden tied the game 8 minutes later. Bowman then restored the one-goal lead just two minutes after Wasden's goal. Bowman counted twice more in the second period - once on the powerplay - for a 4-1 lead after two. Curtis Kulchar brought the Blazers back to within two midway through the third period before Justin McCrae ended the Blazer comeback hopes just 1:09 later. Final shots were 36-35 Blazers with James Reid earning the win while Jon Groenheyde takes the loss. The Blazers were 0-for-6 on the powerplay while the Chiefs were 1-for-7.

Friday @ Prince George: The Blazers went 2-for-6 on the powerplay and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill in a 4-3 win over the Cougars on Friday night in PG. Zak Stebner scored both powerplay goals for the visitors with singles going to Shayne Wiebe and Tyler Shattock - both scoring their 26th goals of the season with Shattock's standing up as the game winner. Brett Connolly and Nick Buonassisi scored for the Cougars as they outshot the Blazers 37-28. Justin Leclerc made 34 saves for the win while Kevin Armstrong took the loss for the Cougars. The two teams will meet again Saturday in Prince George.

Saturday @ Prince George: For the first time since March of 2001, the Blazers swept both ends of their doubleheader road trip to Prince George following a 6-2 win over the Cougars on Saturday night at CN Centre. The Blazers scored the first four goals of the night for a 2-0 lead after one and 4-0 lead in the second before the Cougars got two back before the end of the middle period to cut the lead back to two goals. The Blazers added two more in the third to put the game away. CJ Stretch scored twice and added two assists, Shayne Wiebe scored two goals and chipped in with one assist, Zak Stebner and Jimmy Bubnick added single goals. Final shots were 32-32 with Justin Leclerc getting the win while Joe Caligiuri takes the loss. The Blazers were 2-for-5 on the powerplay and 5-for-6 on the penalty kill.
