Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - With five games remaining in the 2008-09 Western Hockey League regular season, the Prince Albert Raiders find themselves two points out of the 8th and final Eastern Conference playoff spot, held by the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Raiders play four of their five remaining games at the Art Hauser Centre, including this week against Brandon Wednesday and Saskatoon Friday.

It is possible the Raiders and Oil Kings could end up in a tie for the 8th position after the regular season concludes March 15th. WHL rule #28 states if two teams are tied for the final playoff spot, a sudden-death game would be played. Rule #28.1.c) states: "In the event two Clubs are tied in points for the last playoff position, then these Clubs will play a sudden-death game in the home arena of the Club having won the most games in WHL standings." Currently the Raiders have 28 victories and the Oil Kings 27. However if they end up tied with the number of victories and points, the home ice advantage for the playoff game would go to the team with more points in games between the clubs this season. Edmonton has three wins and a shoot out loss in four games against the Raiders and would have the advantage in this instance to host the tie breaking game.

If a tie breaker game is needed in Prince Albert it would be Tuesday, March 17th at 7:30 PM.
