
Blast Defeat Lancers 19-8

The Blast traveled to Rochester on Saturday afternoon to matchup with the Lancers for the first time this season. In a game where defense played a key contributor, the Blast defeated the Lancers 19-8 for their 8th win in a row.
The game got off to a slow start with both teams coming out and applying defensive pressure. The Blast gained the early lead when Adauto Neto scored the first goal of the game at the 2:48 mark off an assist from Pat Healey. At the 5:18 mark Tony Donatelli scored his 6th goal of the year to put the Blast up 4. After a Blast penalty, the defense was able to step up while goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 5 saves and the Blast led 4-0 after the first quarter.
Both teams picked up the pace in the second quarter. At the 3:25 mark Lucas Roque got a break away and was able to beat the keeper for his team leading 13th goal of the year. The Blast lead was extended to 8 after Max Ferdinand found the back of the net off an assist from Lucas Roque. The Blast defense recorded 4 blocks in the half and went into the break leading 8-0.
The second half picked up offensively as 9 goals were scored. The Lancers were able to get on the board with a goal at the 5:49 mark from Jeremy Ortiz. The Blast were able to answer when Lucio Gonzaga perfectly placed a ball in the corner of the net for a 3-point goal. Moments later at the 11:55 mark Lucas Roque scored his second goal of the game and pushed the Blast lead to 11. Before the end of the quarter the Lancers Jeremy Ortiz scored another goal making the score 13-4.
The final quarter began with the Lancers on a powerplay. The Blast were able to score shorthanded when Levin Houpeau recorded his 4th goal of the year off an assist from Vini Dantas. The Lancers also converted on the power play when Joey Tavernese found the back of the net. Moments later the Lancers pulled within 7 with Mauricio Salles scoring his 15th goal of the season. Baltimore was able to answer at the 5:06 mark as Lucas Roque recorded the hat trick with his 3rd goal of the game. The Blast converted on a powerplay of their own with minutes remaining as Tony Donatelli recorded his second goal of the game sealing the Blast victory. The final score was 19-8.
The Blast move to 8-0 on the season. The Blast defense led the way with 8 blocked shots including 2 from both Pat Healey and Onua Obasi. In goal for the Blast William Vanzela recorded 16 saves and remains unbeaten in net this season. Offensively Lucas Roque recorded the hat trick and leads the Blast in goals with 15.
The Blast will travel to Harrisburg next weekend to kick off 2015 with a match against the Heat. The game is Saturday, January 3rd at 7:05 p.m.
