Rochester Lancers News Release
(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers welcomed the Baltimore Blast to the Blue Cross Arena at the War Memorial on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers entered the match riding a franchise-best three game winning streak, while the Blast entered the clash unbeaten at 7-0. The Lancers would not give in but in the end fell to the division leading Blast 19-8 in front of 6,230 fans.
The Blast took an early upper hand, scoring twice in the opening five minutes of play. The first of the two tallies was a deflection off the foot of Neto while the second was a nifty one-timer by Tony Donatelli to give the visitors an early 4-0 lead. Rochester had chances to find the net but couldn't finish as a pair of rebounds off the wall were just beyond the reach of Lancer strikers. A powerplay to close out the first quarter gave Rochester some quality scoring chances, however the score at the end of the first stanza remained 4-0.
The second quarter mirrored the first with the Blast gradually increasing their lead. Rochester continued to have opportunities turned aside by Baltimore "Ëkeeper William Vanzela that kept the Lancers off the scoreboard. Meanwhile, Lucas Roque and Max Ferdinand tallied for Baltimore, increasing the Blast lead to 8-0 at the half. Roque scored with his back to the goal, flipping his shot over his head into the upper corner of the net.
Rochester managed to get on the board almost six minutes into the second half as newly re-aquired Jeremy Ortiz scored on a sliding right-footer from Andrew Hoxie. Baltimore added to their lead three minutes later when Lucio Gonzaga connected on a three-point tally from behind the arc to make the score 11-2 Baltimore. Gonzaga was quickly followed by Roque's second tally of the game putting Baltimore up 11 at 13-2. Ortiz closed out the third frame by notching his second of the game cutting into the Blast lead at 13-4.
With a quarter remaining, the fourth quarter began with Baltimore adding to their lead after a tally by Levi Houapeu, making the score 15-4. The Lancers attempted to make a run and after a pair of goals by Mauricio Salles and Joey Tavernese cut the deficit to 15-8, Roque tallied his third of the game for the visitors putting the Blast up 17-8. Baltimore added a late goal by Donatelli on the powerplay to wrap up the game's scoring at 19-8.
The Lancers will be back in action on Thursday, January 1 when they host the Syracuse Silver Knights at the War Memorial at the Blue Cross Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
