Baltimore Blast News Release
The Baltimore Blast continued their undefeated streak at home with a 15-8 victory over the Kansas City Comets. The story of the game was the Blast winning despite William Vanzela suffering a groin injury with 11:08 remaining in the second quarter. At the time, the Blast were leading 4-1 and William Vanzela had made several outstanding saves. With no reserve goalkeeper active for the game, the Blast had to put defender Pat Healey in the goal for the final 41 minutes of play.
Healey held the Comets to two goals until 3 minutes to go in the third quarter. At that time, the Kansas City Comets, who were trailing 10-3, made the strategic move to go to the sixth attacker. It immediately paid dividends, as the Comets were able to reduce the Blast lead to 10-8 with 7:35 remaining in the game. The Blast offense responded with five additional goals to close out the victory.
The Blast were led offensively by Vini Dantas with 4 goals and an assist. Juan Pereira and Jaime Thomas added two goals while additional goals were scored by Jonatas Melo, Andrew Hoxie, Jereme Raley, Marco Nascimento and Tony Donatelli. Adriano Dos Santos, Nelson Santana and Melo each recorded two assists in the win.
William Vanzela and Pat Healey combined for 17 saves. The extent of the groin injury to William Vanzela will be determined Monday when he is evaluated with an MRI.
