Mke Wave Tank Syracuse Silver Knights; Playoff Position Clinched.
January 22, 2018 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
After a three game slump, the Six-Time Champion Milwaukee Wave shutout the Syracuse Silver Knights Saturday afternoon at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena. This win secured the Wave a spot in the 2017-2018 Major Arena Soccer League playoffs.
Final Score Milwaukee Wave 6, Syracuse Silver Knight, 0.
"Overall, our energy level today was fantastic and playing in front of our home crowd has a lot to do with that," commented Head Coach Giuliano Oliviero. "We have to continue to build off of this win especially on the defensive side of the ball. This a game we needed and I couldn't be more proud of the players."
Milwaukee Wave midfielder number 26, Ian Bennett not only was responsible for four of the six goals Sunday afternoon, but is now at a total of 39 for the season. This is just 17 away from his 53 goal season in 2016-2017.
Along with being shocked at this high goal total, Bennett commented, "I'm just happy we won. We just needed to get back into our ways and it was a team effort. Today wasn't about scoring goals, it was about playing good defense and then our offense would fall into place."
Bennett is just one goal away from the MASL goal leader, Franck Tayou, and still holds first place for points in the league at 49.
Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper number 30, Josh Lemos got hit first clean sheet of the season with seven saves against Syracuse and now totaling 141 for the season thus far.
"I did my job and luckily none of the shots went in today." Said Lemos. "I had a lot of blocks and the team played great. So, the shutout is not only mine, it's the whole team's."
The Milwaukee Wave have some time to recover from their busy schedule as they prepare to faceoff against the St. Louis Ambush next Sunday, January, 28th, 1:05 p.m. at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
"It's been a long grinding week," commented Bennett. "The three teams that we lost too are really good and are still fighting for a playoff position. I think we underestimated them, but pairing it with the travel made it extra difficult. It was awesome to come home and play in front our fans. We needed that."
