Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries are excited to announce that infielder Blake Schmit has been selected as the team's lone representative at the 2016 American Association All-Star Game in St. Paul, MN on August 2nd.

Schmit is having a terrific season with the Canaries, posting a .348 batting average with seven doubles, three triples, and four homeruns in 53 games this season. The Eden Prairie, MN native currently holds the third highest average in the league, and the top batting average amongst all Canaries batters this season.

"We are extremely proud that Blake will be representing the Sioux Falls Canaries in this year's All-Star game," said General Manager Duell Higbe. "He is a true professional on and off the field and is certainly deserving of this honor."

The former University of Maryland product spent two seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization, ending the 2015 season in Class-A Fort Meyers. In two years in the Twins organization, he collected 42 base hits in 195 at bats.

"It's been a rough past couple summers for me with injuries and the overall numbers I've put up, so this is a real honor" said Schmit. "I'm very excited to represent the Canaries in St. Paul. I know I will have a lot of Family and Friends at the All-Star Game cheering me on, so that is pretty special to me."

The North All-Stars are comprised of the four teams from the North Division and four Central Division teams. The North All-Stars were selected through a vote of each of the eight managers from the North and Central Division, with the three reserves and each pitcher selected by Sioux City Explorers, and Central Division manager, Steve Montgomery.
