Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, IN - The Gary RailCats and the American Association jointly announced today that catcher Jose Gonzalez and right-handed pitcher Charle Rosario will represent the RailCats in the American Association All-Star Game. The 2016 All-Star Game will be in St. Paul, Minnesota at CHS Field. First pitch is set for 7:00 PM and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Midwest Plus and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
Gonzalez will be the starting catcher for the North All-Stars in the game. Rosario, the "ace" of the RailCats' staff in 2015, will be available to pitch for the North squad in the game.
Gonzalez, a 10-year veteran, has thrown out 50% of runners attempting to steal on him this season. The Venezuelan is hitting .268 with six doubles, 15 RBI, and four homeruns entering play Wednesday.
The RailCats' catcher showed off his All-Star ability last night against the Laredo Lemurs. Gonzalez was 2-4 and hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th inning. He also picked off a key runner in the top of the 9th inning to keep the game tied.
Rosario was named to the North All-Star team after a dominant first half of the season as the RailCats' "ace" pitcher. The righty from the Dominican Republic is 5-3 with a 2.98 ERA in 14 starts for Gary SouthShore. Rosario is recording his best season of his 10-year career, with two complete-game shutouts already on his ledger. He had never thrown a complete-game prior to this year.
Rosario is top on the team in wins, strikeouts and innings pitched. His ERA is tied for 9th in the American Association and his 64 strikeouts are 3rd most in the league. Rosario has thrown 87.1 innings, the second most of any pitcher in the Association.
Rosario and Gonzalez have helped the RailCats to a 30-27 record this season and currently stand second in the Central Division of the American Association. For more information on Gary South Shore RailCats tickets and Group Outing information call 219-882-2255 or visit www.railcatsbaseball.com .
