
Blades Playoff Hockey Beings Tomorrow Night

Playoff hockey has arrived in the Bridge City and excitement can be felt throughout! The Saskatoon Blades (46-19-3-4) will take on the Red Deer Rebels (39-28-0-5) for games 1 & 2 of the WHL Eastern Conference Quarter Final Friday March 20th & Saturday March 21st on home ice.
Blades vs. Rebels
The Blades are in the post-season for the second straight year after finishing 3rd in the Eastern Conference. Five Blades players head into the post-season with 20 or more goals and eight with 15 or more goals from the regular season. The Blades 20 year olds Derek Hulak and Walker Wintoneak lead the team in scoring vs. the Rebels with 8 points each and are expected to play a large role in the team's offensive attack. Defensively, the Blades blueliner Stefan Elliott is coming off a personal best season 26 goals and 65 points and is sure to contribute offensively. The leadership of stay-at-home defenseman and the possible return of Teigan Zahn will also be an asset throughout the Blades post-season campaign
Head-to-head the Blades have outshot Red Deer 129-106 this season and outscored them 19-12. The physicality between these two teams is sure to transfer over into the post season as a total of 16 fighting majors were given out in the 4 regular season games.
The Red Deer Rebels finished the 2009-2010 season 6th in the Eastern Conference and will be making their first playoff appearance since 2006-2007. Rebels' netminder and Saskatoon native Darcy Kuemper is expected to start the Rebels playoff run between the pipes in his hometown. Andrej Kudrna and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins lead the way vs. the Saskatoon Blades with 5 points each. The highly regarded Alex Petrovic is expected to lead the way on the Rebels blueline vs. the Blades grinding physical play.
