Blades Hold On For 4-3 Victory In Seattle

On the strength of three power play goals, the Saskatoon Blades defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-3 on Wednesday evening to open their six-game road trip.

Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver, BC), Josh Nicholls (Tsawwassen, BC), Walker Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB), and Burke Gallimore (Edmonton, AB) scored for the Blades, who now have won two straight games.

Saskatoon - 1st - Elliott (Derek Hulak, Sam Klassen) 3:52 pp Elliott put the Blades on the board first on a 5-on-3 after taking a feed from Hulak (Saskatoon, SK) and beating goaltender Calvin Pickard low glove side for his 12th of the season.

Saskatoon - 1st - Nicholls (Tyler Kizuik, Charles Inglis) 4:20 pp The road team went up 2-0 just 18 seconds later when Nicholls put home his 6th of the season for the Blades.

Saskatoon - 2nd - Wintoneak (Klassen, Elliott) 4:25 pp Wintoneak gave the Blades their third straight power play marker of the game after collecting a rebound off of his own shot and jamming it past Pickard for his 18th of the year.

Saskatoon - 2nd - Gallimore (Inglis, Nicholls) 15:11 Gallimore put the Blades up 4-0 on a give-and-go with Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) that resulted in him depositing his 12th on the campaign.

Seattle - 3rd - Chance Lund 2:07 Lund got his first of two goals on the night to put the Thunderbirds on the board early in the third period with his 2nd of the season.

Seattle - 3rd - Prab Rai (Charles Wells, Sena Acolatse) 7:03 pp Rai made it a two-score game with after a depositing a rebound past Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) for his 23rd of the season.

Seattle - 3rd - Lund (Branden Troock, Brenden Dillon) 7:18 Lund made it 4-3 just 15 seconds later after depositing another rebound after driving to the Blades' net on a rush from an initial shot off the stick of Troock.

Morrison turned aside 31 shots between the pipes for the Blades to earn the victory. At the Seattle end, Pickard made 28 saves in a losing cause.

Final score Saskatoon Blades 4, Seattle Thunderbirds 3.

With the victory, the Blades improve to 25-7-1-3 and move back into sole position of first place in the WHL's East Division. The Thunderbirds fall to 13-20-2-4 and continue to sit fifth in the U.S. Division.
