Americans Shut Out Silvertips, 1-0

Kennewick, WA - The Tri-City Americans, led by goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy, shut out the Everett Silvertips Tuesday night in Kennewick, 1-0. Pechurskiy stopped all 28 shots faced for his first career WHL shutout in his first career WHL game. Kent Simpson kept the 'Tips in the game for all 60 minutes stopping 39 shots, including an 18 save first period. Johnny Lazo scored the only goal of the game for his 22nd of the season. Everett now moves to 1-4-0-0 against the Americans this season.

After a scoreless first period the Americans scored late into the second on the power play. Lazo connected at 19:58 with assists to Tyler Schmidt and Brendan Shinnimin giving Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Tri-City led 32-22 in shots after 40 minutes of play.

Simpson was pulled at 19:19 of the third period to give Everett the extra attacker, but Tri-City held on to secure a 1-0 win.

This brings the 'Tips record to 19-15-2-1 with 41 points in 37 games played. Everett concludes 2009 with a New Years Eve showdown against the Saskatoon Blades this Thursday at 7:05 pm in Everett.
