Blades Edge Thunderbirds 2-1 in Shootout

The Saskatoon Blades and the Seattle Thunderbirds battled back and forth for 65 minutes until the game had to be decided by a shootout, the first one for the Blades this season.

Thunderbirds forward, Jim O'Brien, opened the scoring at the 8:52 mark of the first period. Stefan Elliott would reply for the Blades in the second period on a nice slap shot. After a scoreless third period, an end to end Overtime period would ensue with chances coming from both ends of the ice. Braden Holtby would make a clutch penalty shot save on Lindsay Nielsen that would allow the game to move on to a shootout.

Hulak, Kytnar, Langkow, and Chorneyko would score in the shootout and Holtby would make the clinching save against Jonathon Parker. Holtby made 34 saves on 35 shots, while Seattle goalie, Calvin Pickard, made 27 saves on 28 shots faced. With the win, the Blades overtake the Regina Pats for 1st place in the East Division, with 31 points.
