Saskatoon Blades News Release
After giving up the game's first goal, the Blades battled back with 3 unanswered tallies, winning the game 3-1 with five Saskatchewan Roughriders players and the Grey Cup on hand in attendance.
After a pre-game ceremony where the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Grey Cup Trophy took part in a ceremonial puck drop, Steve DaSilva opened up the games scoring with a goal in the 2nd period, with the Blades storming back thanks to goals from Jyri Niemi (PP), Sam Klassen, and Colton Gillies (EN). For Gillies, it was his team leading 11th goal of the season while Niemi scored his first goal in his return after being out of the line-up for approximately 1 month with a wrist injury. Meanwhile, Klassen scored his first goal in over 60 games as a Blade.
Braden Holtby had another strong showing at home; making 25 saves on 26 Kootenay shots picking up his 10th win of the year. Kris Lazaruk stopped 14 of Saskatoon's 16 shots in the first 2 periods of the game before being replaced by Thomas Heemskerk.
The Blades power play was 1 for 2 on the night while their penalty kill was a perfect 4 for 4.
The team's next home action goes next Wednesday, December 12th when they host the Regina Pats.
