Blades & Saskatoon Media Group Announce Four-Year Agreement

September 4, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades will stay "Where the Home Teams Play" for the next 4 years after reaching a deal with the parent company for 92.9 The Bull radio station.

The agreement between the Blades and the Saskatoon Media Group, parent company for 92.9 The Bull, will see all regular season and playoff games continued to be broadcasted by the station for the next four seasons. In addition to the game night coverage provided by 92.9 The Bull, the Blades will also be featured throughout the season by DJ's from 92.9 The Bull, as well as, 600 CJWW AM and Magic 98.3 FM, sister stations within the Saskatoon Media Group.

The Blades and Saskatoon Media Group have proudly partnered to bring Blades games to the radio waves since 1994. The first five seasons were on the AM dial with CJWW broadcasting games. The Blades then moved to the FM side first with Hot 93 from 1999 to 2008 and most recently with 92.9 The Bull since 2008.

The Blades are fortunate to welcome back Les Lazaruk for his 16th season in the booth calling the action. The veteran broadcaster deservedly has claimed the moniker of "The Voice of the Blades", having called over 1000 regular season games and over 50 playoff games.

"We are extremely pleased to be renewing our longstanding relationship with Saskatoon Media Group," commented Saskatoon Blades Owner & Governor Jack Brodsky. "The partnership goes much deeper than radio broadcasts of Blades games. Besides the on-air play-by-play, Saskatoon Media Group's personnel make up a large part of our game night presentation. Our shared values enable us to work together on many community events as well."

"We look forward to the opportunity to add value to our already very productive relationship."

"We are very pleased to be extending our partnership with the Saskatoon Blades hockey club," said Vic Dubois, General Manager of Saskatoon Media Group. "I believe the relationship has been mutually beneficial for both of us and we are very happy to bring our brand of ‘professionalism' in our day-to-day coverage of the team to our listeners."

"We are thrilled to enter into a new, four-year deal to broadcast all Blades' regular-season and playoff games during an exciting period in which Credit Union Centre is undergoing a major renovation that will also allow us to present our broadcasts from a new, permanent location in the ‘Gondola'! We are also hopeful that the team will bring that long-awaited championship to the city of Saskatoon in the not-too-distant future!"

The Blades have three remaining exhibition games in preparation for the 2009-10 regular season. The next exhibition game is Saturday, September 5th against the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Aberdeen Recreation Complex. Game time is 7:00 pm.

The regular season gets underway on Friday, September 18th against the Regina Pats. Prior to the game the Blades will raise the 2008-09 East Division Champions banner to the rafters of Credit Union Centre. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Game night sponsor is 92.9 The Bull with many prizes and giveaways throughout the night.

Individual game night tickets for regular season games go on sale Tuesday, September 8th at 10:00 am. Tickets can be purchased by calling 938-7800, online at ticketmaster.ca, or by stopping by any Ticketmaster location.
