St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
St. Joseph, MO-St. Joe (2-0, 28-22) and Lincoln (0-2, 31-19) played a tight game on the 4th of July, and timely Blacksnakes hitting and clutch pitching won out, 4-3. St. Joe won their ninth straight series by taking the first two from Lincoln.
St. Joe never trailed as they led 2-0 with unearned first inning runs. Scooter Jordan reached on an error to start the inning before Ben Thomas was hit by a pitch. They would each come around to score on a groundout by Jake Whitesides and single by Mark Burke for a 2-0 lead.
Lincoln tied it against Mark Nussbeck on a two-run home run by Cory Harris in the fourth, his league-leading 11th of the season. St. Joe re-took the lead in the fifth when Whitesides again drove in Jordan with a single to make it 3-2.
Again, Lincoln tied it in the seventh but stranded the bases loaded and the âSnakes responded in the bottom of the eighth, with Whitesides again at home plate. This time his run-scoring single proved to be the winner, 4-3, as J.C. Huguet and Jamie Tricoglou closed out the win.
Huguet (2-1) and Tricoglou-who saved his sixth game-combined for 2 2/3 scoreless relief. Mark Nussbeck did not pick up a decision in 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.
Whitesides drove in Jordan three times, combining on each but one of the âSnakes runs.
St. Joe concludes the 10-game homestand Wednesday night and looks to sweep Lincoln with Jesen Merle (3-1) going for the âSnakes. Game time is 7:05pm with the gates opening at Phil Welch at 6pm. The broadcast begins at 6:45pm at www.stjoeblacksnakes.com and 88.9 FM at the ballpark.
