December 28, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
CHICAGO, IL - Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced this evening that the Blackhawks have acquired right winger Pierre Parenteau and defenseman Bruno St. Jacques from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for goaltender Sebastien Caron and forwards Matt Keith and Chris Durno. In addition, the Blackhawks have re-assigned goaltender Mike Brodeur to Norfolk from the Augusta Lynx (ECHL).
"Parenteau has started to come into his own," said Blackhawks Director of Hockey Operations Stan Bowman. "He is a skilled forward who is very good on the power play. He has continued to improve each season. St. Jacques is a well-rounded defenseman who is an above average skater with offensive ability. He has an edge to his game and he gives us a veteran who has NHL experience."
Parenteau, 5'11" and 195 pounds, was Anaheim's 9th round pick in the 2001 entry draft out of Chicoutimi in the Quebec Major Junior League. The 23 year-old forward has appeared in 28 games for the AHL's Portland Pirates this season, scoring 15 goals and adding 13 assists for 28 points with 35 penalty minutes and a +6 rating. Of his 15 goals, seven have come on the power play. His 15 goals led the team and he was second on the team in scoring - just two points out of the team lead. He is in his fourth pro season having played last season at Portland and the previous two seasons with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (AHL).
Parenteau played for Team Canada in the 2003 World Junior Championships, appearing in six games and scoring four goals and seven points to help Canada capture the Silver Medal.
Bruno St. Jacques, 26, stands at 6'2" and weighs in at 210 pounds. He was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the 9th round of the 1998 entry draft. This season, he has appeared in 25 games for Portland scoring one goal and nine points with 26 penalty minutes and a +2 rating.
St. Jacques played in 13 NHL games for the Flyers before being traded to Carolina during the 2002-03 season. He appeared in 53 NHL games for Carolina and in one NHL game last season after joining the Ducks. In his NHL career, he has played a total of 67 NHL games scoring three goals while adding seven assists for 10 points with 47 penalty minutes.
Matt Keith has appeared in 19 games for Norfolk this season, scoring two goals and eight points with 15 penalty minutes and a +2 rating. He also played two games with the Blackhawks earlier this season with 4 penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating.
Keith was the longest-serving Admiral with 237 games in a Norfolk uniform between 2003-04 and this season. He is tied for the franchise lead in game-winning goals (12), and is ranked second all-time in power play goals (21), fifth all-time in games played, third all-time in goals (59), and sixth all-time in assists (69) and points (128).
Sebastien Caron was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on August 8, 2006. He had appeared in nine games for Norfolk, compiling a record of 4-4-0 with a 4.03 goals against average and a .868 save percentage. He also appeared in one game for the Blackhawks this season, picking up the victory in a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on November 10th.
Chris Durno was signed by the Blackhawks as a free agent on September 25, 2006 after coming to training camp on a tryout basis. This season at Norfolk, Durno appeared in 22 games, scoring four goals and five points with 61 penalty minutes and a minus-2 rating.
In addition, the Blackhawks have re-assigned goaltender Mike Brodeur to Norfolk. Brodeur, 23, is a 6'1", 171-pound goaltender from Calgary, Alberta. A seventh round selection (211th overall) of the Blackhawks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Brodeur recently recovered from off-season back surgery and was assigned to the Augusta Lynx (ECHL) on December 15. He had appeared in two games with the Lynx, winning both with a 2.00 GAA and .905 save percentage and one shutout.
