West Virginia Black Bears News Release

Granville, W. Va. - Monongalia County Ballpark was filled with extra-innings drama once again, as the West Virginia Black Bears walked-off on the Auburn Doubledays by a score of 2-1.

This is the second straight walk-off for the Black Bears in the series, as the home team won in the tenth inning of last night's ballgame thanks to a single from Daniel Amaral.

West Virginia starting pitcher Osvaldo Bido had another impressive outing for the Black Bears. The righty threw six and one-third innings of shutout baseball, surrendering only two hits and two walks to go with four strikeouts.

When Bido did work his way into a jam in the seventh, reliever P Will Gardner came in to get the final two outs of the inning. He dominated again for the eighth, completing one and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball.

P Conner Loeprich came on in the ninth inning to retire the Doubledays, as the game progressed to extra-innings for the second straight game.

After Loeprich escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the tenth, West Virginia made things interesting in the bottom of the inning. The home team loaded the bases with two outs, but couldn't bring anyone around to score as the game advanced into the eleventh inning.

Auburn finally got on the board in the top of the eleventh, and an RBI double put the score at 1-0. The Black Bears responded right away, as LF Daniel Amaral tied the game on a sacrifice fly to knot the game at one run apiece.

Then in the bottom of the twelfth, West Virginia walked-off for the second game in a row. With the bases loaded, DH Edison Lantigua worked a game-ending walk to drive home the final run and pick up a Black Bears win.

West Virginia goes for the sweep tomorrow night at Monongalia County Ballpark, with first pitched scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
