Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Bisons pitching staff stole the show on Sunday afternoon when they allowed only two hits against in Buffalo's 5-1 win over the Rochester Red Wings at Sahlen Field in downtown Buffalo.
The Bisons didn't waste any time getting on the board on Sunday afternoon as Addison Barger hit a line drive single to center field in the bottom of the first, scoring Spencer Horwitz and making it a 1-0 game. This single was good for Barger's 31st RBI of the season.
Buffalo kept the scoring going in a big way in the bottom of the third as Ernie Clement made it 2-0 when he hit his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot over the deep left-center wall. This is Clement's 50th RBI of the season and it extends his hitting streak to 14 consecutive games.
The Red Wings were able to put themselves on the scoresheet for the first time in the bottom of the fourth inning as Jake Noll hit a sacrifice fly to right field that was far enough for Travis Blankenhorn to score from third base, 2-1.
The Bisons padded their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jamie Ritchie hit a long double to the right field corner, which scored Tanner Morris to make it 3-1. This is Ritchie's second double and 16th RBI on the season. The scoring didn't stop there for the Herd this inning as Cameron Eden made it 4-1 when he hustled out a single that allowed Ritchie to score.
The Bisons bats stayed smoking hot in the bottom of the sixth inning as Clement singled on a line drive to left field, scoring Mason McCoy, 5-1. This is Clement's second RBI of the game and 51st of the season, giving him the third best total on the Bisons current roster, trailing only Horwitz and Rafael Lantigua.
The Bisons relief pitchers were fantastic on Sunday afternoon. Pitchers Gabriel Ponce, Chad Green, Connor Cooke, Paxton Schultz, and Roman Wick combined for five innings of work where they allowed zero hits against. Together they racked up five strikeouts and allowed only three walks.
The Bisons will enjoy an off-day on Monday before heading to Syracuse to face the Mets in a six-game series. The series starts on Tuesday with a 6:35 p.m. scheduled first pitch.
