Bisons Season Finale Rained Out, Mets to Promote 6 from Buffalo

The Buffalo Bisons season finale against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs today has been postponed due to rain. The game will not be made up. The Bisons finished the 2012 season with a record of 67-76 and in 6th place in the International League North Division.

Opening Day 2013 will be Thursday, April 4 as the Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings at Coca-Cola Field.

With the conclusion of the season, the New York Mets announced that they will promote six Bisons before their game tomorrow in St. Louis. The Mets will select the contract of OF FRED LEWIS and LHP JUSTIN HAMPSON and recall RHP JENRRY MEJIA, RHP JEURYS FAMILIA, RHP ELVIN RAMIREZ and INF JORDANY VALDESPIN. New York already recalled RHP COLLIN McHUGH on Monday to start in St. Louis.

Lewis was the Bisons 2012 Most Valuable Player and led the team in average (.294), doubles (26), triples (7), extra-base hits (46), slugging percentage (.482), stolen bases (25) and runs scored (80). He homered in back-to-back games on four separate occasions in 2012 and leaves the Herd on an 11-game hit streak.

Hampson made 51 appearances out of the Bisons bullpen this season, becoming the first Buffalo pitcher to record two 50-game seasons in the modern era (52 games in 2011). Overall, the southpaw was 4-3 with a 2.33ERA and four saves in 65.2 innings of work (63 hits, 59 strikeouts). Hampson was given the Bisons "Hometown Hero" award this year for his excellence in home games. Hampson was 3-1 with a 1.77ERA in 27 appearances at Coca-Cola Field.

With 28 starts in 2012, Familia made more starts than any other pitcher in the International League. The righty was 9-9 with a 4.73ERA. He collected 128 strikeouts, 6th most in the International League and the 5th most in a single season by a Bisons pitcher in the modern era.

Ramirez was named the Bisons 2012 Comeback Player of the Year. The righty missed all of last season with a shoulder injury but came back strong to go 3-1 with a 2.36ERA and one save in 33 appearances out of the Bisons bullpen. Ramirez struck out 41 and allowed just 26 hits in 42.0 innings of work.

Mejia was 3-4 with a 3.54ERA in 10 starts and 16 relief appearances for the Bisons. The righty fared much better as a starting pitcher while with Buffalo. In his 10 starts, Mejia was 2-3 with a 2.75ERA and only 48 hits allowed in 52.1 innings of work.

Valdespin played just 39 games with the Bisons this year, spending most of June, July and August with the Mets. During his time in Buffalo, he averaged .285 with two doubles, a triple, five home runs, 23RBI and 10 stolen bases in 39 games.
