Norfolk Tides News Release

Jake Arrieta tossed five strong innings to help pitch the Tides past the Gwinnett Braves 5-1 in the season finale Monday afternoon at Harbor Park.

Arrieta (5-4) was dominant once again, as he struck out nine over five innings of work. He allowed three hits and a walk, the fourth straight start in which he's yielded three hits or fewer.

Over his last four starts Arrieta is now 2-1 with a 1.82 ERA, as he's allowed just nine hits while striking out 31 over 24.2 innings of work.

Rick Zagone worked the final four innings of the contest to register his first save of the year. Zagone, who is the 15th different pitcher to register a save for the Tides this season, finished his 2012 Triple-A campaign without allowing a run in 20.1 innings pitched.

Brandon Waring, Bill Hall and Jamie Hoffmann all belted solo home runs for Norfolk, while Hall added an RBI double.

Sean Gilmartin (1-2) took the loss for Gwinnett, which ended the season dropping nine of its final 10 games.

With the win, the Tides wrapped up their 2012 season with a 74-70 record, the first time Norfolk has finished with a winning mark since going 79-65 in 2005. Norfolk also finished with 44 home wins, tying for the 3rd-highest total in the 20-year history of Harbor Park.
