
SWB Yankees Drop Regular Season Finale in 12 Innings to Paw Sox 6-4

Pawtucket, RI - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (84-60) and Pawtucket (79-65) each finished the final regular season game of the year with position players as the Red Sox out lasted the Yankees in 12 innings by a 6-4 score at McCoy Stadium on Monday afternoon. J.C. Linares hit a Ryan Baker (LP, 1-1) pitch into the bullpen in left field for the game winning hit.
Baker had appeared to give the Yankees a big lift in the top of the eighth inning in a 2-1 game with a pinch hit two RBI double to the gap in right center scoring Kevin Russo and Darnell McDonald. It was the first Triple-A at bat for Baker, who had spent the majority of the season on the disabled list. The two base hit off Brock Huntzinger ran the Yankees lead to 4-1 heading to the bottom of eighth.
The Paw Sox scored three runs in the eighth inning off Yankees reliever Francisco Rondon, who was starting his third inning of work, after a scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh. With runners at first and second and none out, Jon Hee (WP, 1-0) singled to right field and pulled the Red Sox to within 4-2. Rondon delivered a wild pitch past catcher Gustavo Molina scoring Jeremy Hazelbaker to cut the lead to 4-3. With one down, SWB brought in Preston Claiborne, who got a foul pop to third off the bat of Andy LaRoche before a two out single by Danny Valencia tied the game at 4-4.
Each team went through the bullpen before having position players finish the game on the mound. Baker took over on the hill in the bottom of the 11th inning recording a scoreless frame before the Linares homer in the 12th ended the game. Hee came in from shortstop to take over for the Red Sox in the top of the 12th and recorded one, two, three inning.
Pawtucket got on the board in the bottom of the third inning off Yankees starter Mike O'Connor on a RBI single by Hee that scored Ryan Dent for a 1-0 lead. O'Connor who is slated to get the start in game three of the playoffs on Friday in Rochester was lifted after 3.0 innings of work allowing three hits and one run.
The Yankees grabbed the lead at 2-1 with a fourth inning homer from Darnell McDonald that tied the game at 1-1and a passed ball in the fifth inning that scored Melky Mesa to break the tie. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre loaded the bases against Steven Wright in the sixth on two singles and a walk before the pass ball gave the Yankees the lead.
The Yankees and Red Sox open up the Governors' Cup Playoffs on Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium against Pawtucket with a 7:05 PM pitch. Right hander John Maine (8-5, 4.97 ERA) will make the start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with right hander Zach Stewart (3-5, 3.94 ERA).
