***Tonight's game is the final regular season home game for the Bisons this year. Prior to the game, the team will present their end-of-the-year player awards, including Team MVP.
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons close out the home portion of the 2007 regular season with the second game of a two-game set against the Syracuse Chiefs at Dunn Tire Park (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons are 5-1 on this 7-game homestand. On the hill will be RHP Jeff Harris, who worked three innings in a no-decision in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday. The Chiefs' will counter with RHP Mike MacDonald.
BROOMS?: The Bisons will try for the second straight two-game sweep. Buffalo took a weekend series from the Yankees before last night's 8-7 win. The last time the Bisons swept two straight series was August 27-30, 2005 against Scranton/WB and Rochester. IL BATTING RACE: With two hits yesterday, Ben Francisco maintained his four-point lead in the IL batting race. At .322, he is four points ahead of Richmond's Martin Prado (.318). Both Francisco and Prado have seven games remaining this season. The last Bisons batter to win a batting championship was Mark Ryal, who hit .334 in 1990 in the American Association.
VS. THE CHIEFS: The Bisons are 9-6 against the Chiefs this year, clinching a season-series victory with last night's win. Buffalo has won the season series the last four years and seven times since rejoining the IL in 1998. As a team, Buffalo has hit .304 off Syracuse pitching this year, led by Ryan Mulhern (.404, 2HR, 13RBI) and Luis Rivas (.422, 1HR, 8RBI).
MARTE HONORED: Andy Marte was named the IL Batter-of-the-Week on Monday for the second time this year (also June 4-10). He followed up the award by going 2-3 with a walk last night. Marte has hit in seven straight games, with a .524 (11-21) batting average, three homers and 10RBI. He's tied with Ryan Mulhern for the team lead in home runs (16).
BY ANY OTHER NAME: Mike Rose remains red-hot at the plate after going 2-4 with two RBI last night. The catcher has averaged .353 (18-51) in 14 games since August 9 with four doubles, two home runs and 11RBI.
HOME SWEET HOME: Tonight's is the final regular season home game of the 2007 season. At 39-28, the Herd has posted their ninth consecutive winning record at home and 17th in the 20 years of Dunn Tire Park. Since 1988, the Bisons are 858-562 in downtown Buffalo, good for a .604 winning percentage.
