Norfolk Tides News Release

NORFOLK, VA -- The International League today announced its post-season All-Star Team and Award Winners, and Norfolk Tides' pitcher Cory Doyne has been elected as the relief pitcher on the All-Star Team. The team was selected by the circuit's managers, coaches, media, and club representatives.

Doyne saved 29 games in 30 chances for the Tides this year, and he posted an ERA of 2.23 in 42 games. He recorded 49 strikeouts in 44.1 innings, with a microscopic WHIP of 0.88. The 26-year-old native of Tampa, Florida now holds the Tides' franchise record for saves in a single season, besting the old mark of 26 set by Derek Wallace in 1996. Doyne is the first Norfolk reliever to be named to the postseason All-Star team since Wallace was elected in 1996.

Doyne also earned the save for the International League team at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Albuquerque, New Mexico on July 11. Doyne struck out two batters in a scoreless 9th inning, helping the International League defeat the Pacific Coast League 7-5.
