Buffalo Bisons News Release
TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons face the Syracuse Chiefs in the first game of a four-game series from Alliance Bank Stadium (7:00 p.m.). The Herd is coming off a series win in Pawtucket that has raised their road record to 9-3 so far this season. Two of those wins belong to LHP Jason Stanford, who gets the start for Buffalo tonight. Stanford also won his last outing at home with five solid innings against the Chiefs a week ago today. Syracuse will counter with RHP Ismael Ramirez.
RED HOT BAT: Franklin Gutierrez has the Bisons longest hit streak of the 2007 season. The outfielder has hit in 10 straight heading into today's action with a .413 (19-46) average, three doubles, two home runs, five RBI and 13 runs scored. Eight of the 10 games have been multi-hit performances. Gutierrez is currently third in the IL with a .370 average.
RUNNING HERD: For the third consecutive game, the Bisons went a perfect 2-2 stealing bases last night. Buffalo is second in the International League with 27 steals. As a team, the Bisons have only been caught stealing four times (87.1% success rate).
ROAD WARRIORS: At 9-3, the Bisons are tied with Richmond for the best road record in the International League. As a team, the Bisons ERA is a run and a half better on the road (2.71) than at Dunn Tire Park (4.29).
RUNS A PLENTY: The Bisons outscored the PawSox 28-11 in the final three games of their series. On the year, the Herd has scored 105 runs and their 5.5 runs/game is the highest mark in the International League. The team is also fourth in the league in batting average (.263) and second in stolen bases (27).
STARTING STRONG: LHP Jason Stanford is a perfect 3-0 so far this year and could become the league's third four-game winner tonight. Stanford's strong start has him moving up the Bisons Modern Era (1985-on) pitching charts. The southpaw is now tied with Tim Drew for fifth in career wins (23), and is fourth in strikeouts (250) and seventh in innings pitched (311.1).
ROSTER MOVE: The Cleveland Indians have recalled outfielder Ben Francisco for his Major League debut. Francisco hit .299 (20-67) with a team-high 20 hits, six doubles and seven stolen bases for the Bisons this year. Coming to Buffalo will be RHP Fausto Carmona. Carmona was 2-1 with a 3.74ERA in four games with the Tribe this year.
