Bell's strong start lifts Tides

Norfolk Tides News Release
Rob Bell allowed two hits over 5.0 shutout innings, pitching the Tides past the Durham Bulls 2-0 Tuesday night from Harbor Park.
Making his first appearance of the season, Bell (1-0) did not allow a runner to reach third base in the contest, helping the Tides snap a four-game losing skid. After spending the first month of the season on the disabled list with an infection in his right middle finger, he issued just two walks while striking out three as the Tides picked up their first shutout win this season.
Jim Johnson and Todd Williams followed Bell with two shutout innings apiece, with Williams picking up his first save of the season. Williams has now thrown 11.2 scoreless innings this year.
Norfolk got all the runs they would need in the bottom of the second, as Mike Cervenak led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Terry Tiffee.
The Tides added another run in the sixth on an RBI single by Jon Knott which scored J.R. House.
Jason Hammel (1-2) was the hard-luck loser for Durham, yielding two runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings of work. Hammel struck out ten without walking a batter.
The Tides and Bulls will square off again Wednesday night from Harbor Park, with Jon Leicester (0-2, 3.60) set to take the hill for Norfolk against Durham southpaw J.P. Howell (1-3, 5.26). First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
