Bisons' Francisco Promoted to Cleveland, Carmona Optioned to Herd

The Cleveland Indians today announced that they have recalled outfielder Ben Francisco from the Buffalo Bisons. To make room on their roster, pitcher Fausto Carmona has been optioned to the Herd.

Francisco, 25, will be making his first career appearance at the Major League level. The outfielder spent all of April with the Bisons and hit .299 (20-67) with a six doubles, a home run, nine RBI and seven stolen bases (no caught stealings). He led the team in doubles, stolen bases and runs scored (14) and was second in walks (11) and on-base percentage (.397).

In 2006, Francisco finished first or second on the Bisons in virtually every offensive category while sharing the team's Stan Barron Most Valuable Player honors with outfielder Jason Dubois. He led Buffalo in games played (134), hits (143 -T2nd in International League), doubles (32 -T5th in the IL), extra-base hits (54), runs scored (80 -T4th in the IL) and stolen bases (25 -T9th in IL). He was also second on the team with a .278 batting average and 17 home runs and third with 59RBI.

Carmona, 23, has spent the entire 2007 season with the Indians, going 2-1 with a 3.76ERA in four starts. (26.1IP, 25H, 11R/ER, 7BB, 9K). This will be his fourth season with the Bisons. Since joining the team in a spot start on the final day of the 2004 regular season, Carmona is 9-7 with a 3.93ERA in 20 games with Buffalo.
