Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons host the Rochester Red Wings in the finale of a four-game home-and-home series from Dunn Tire Park (6:05 p.m.). The Herd is looking for its third consecutive series win as they lead the set, two-games-to-one, despite yesterday's 6-4 Rochester victory. On the mound for the Bisons will be RHP Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie was sharp his last time out as he allowed just one run on two hits in six innings of a no-decision in Syracuse on Wednesday. Rochester will counter with RHP Pete Munro, who lost on Wednesday in Indianapolis (5.0IP, 12H, 5R, 5ER, K).

VS NORTH: At 21-15, the Bisons have the best divisional record in the International League North. The Herd is in the middle of a 17-game stretch against divisional teams. Buffalo is 7-3 in the first ten games of the stretch.

FLASHBACK: Jeremy Guthrie was on the mound for last year's Independence Eve Celebration and threw maybe his best game of the 2005 season. Guthrie allowed just one run on three hits in seven solid innings of a 10-1 victory over Ottawa. He also struck out seven and didn't issue a walk, facing just three more than the minimum.

HOMER TEAM: With 81 homers so far this season, the Bisons have hit more home runs than any team in the International League. Buffalo is currently four homers ahead of Toledo and 24 blasts ahead of the league average of 57 per team.

HOT BAT: Infielder Jason Alfaro has posted a double and an RBI in each of his last four games. In 11 games since June 20, the infielder is hitting .465 (20-43) with five doubles, two home runs, 11RBI and six runs scored.

STILL GOING: Ben Francisco has the second longest hit streak in the International League this season. Francisco has hit in 18 straight games, averaging .293 (22-75) over the stretch. The streak is just two games shy of the 20-game stretch produced by Syracuse's Sergio Santos. Francisco has three doubles, a triple, three home runs, three RBI and 11 runs scored during his streak.

THRUWAY SERIES: At 10-7, the Bisons lead the 2006 Thruway Cup Series. The Bisons are a half game ahead of Rochester (8-6) and four games up on third-place Syracuse (6-11).

INDEPENDENCE EVE CELEBRATION: The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will perform a post game concert tonight. There will also be the largest fireworks show of the year after the concert, presented by KeyBank.
