RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Ottawa Lynx 8-4 at The Diamond Monday. The Braves took advantage of eight walks and three Ottawa errors to beat the Lynx for the second straight night.
The Lynx jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by Fernando Tatis and a two run homer by Andy Tracy. Richmond chipped back with a run in the bottom half on an RBI ground ball by Carlos Mendez. The Braves moved in front to stay with a three run second inning. Tony Pena scored on an error and Brayan Pena chased two runs home with a single to give Richmond a 4-3 lead. The Braves added to their lead with two unearned runs in the fifth on a pair of Lynx errors. Keith Reed knocked in a run with a single in the sixth to trim the Richmond lead to 6-4. The Braves bumped their lead to 8-4 in the seventh on a bases loaded walk to Jonathan Schuerholz and an RBI single by Gregor Blanco.
Franklin Rodriguez earned the win. Cory Morris took the loss. Brayan and Tony Pena each had two hits for the Braves. Six of the Braves eight runs reached on walks. Five of the Braves eight runs were unearned. Reed, Luis Terrero, and Brooks Badeaux had two hits for Ottawa
The Braves battle the Lynx again Tuesday at 7 PM at The Diamond. Following the game the Braves will have a post-game Fireworks Extravaganza. A limited number of tickets are still available.
